01

Coffee

Suffolk Punch Brewing runs a full-service coffee bar alongside its taphouse, which makes it a rare morning-to-evening stop. Macaron Espresso Bar pairs espresso with naturally gluten-free macarons.

02

Brunch

Red Rocks Cafe serves a Sunday brunch highlighted by Visit Lake Norman. For weekends, a reservation saves a wait.

03

Something sweet

Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop sells homemade pie by the slice; Kilwins covers ice cream and chocolate. Green Brothers Juice Co. is the lighter alternative.

04

Know before you go

Hours and menus change and are not listed here. Check each business directly, and suggest an independent café we should research through the Suggest a Place form.

05

Make a morning of it

Pair coffee with a short walk around Birkdale Village or, on a market Saturday, a trip downtown to the growers’ market at Veterans Park. For a slower brunch, book Red Rocks Cafe and finish with a browse through the village shops.

For a nature morning, Quest at Latta Nature Preserve is free and opens the trails; plan coffee before you go, as the preserve is a drive from Birkdale.
